Next-gen Dodge Viper mule caught wearing new front end

Next-gen Dodge Viper mule caught wearing new front end

Filed under: Spy Photos , Convertible , Performance , Dodge It’s one thing to quietly anticipate the arrival of something exciting. It’s quite another when you can actually see it coming, so here’s a batch of spy shots showing the next-generation Dodge Viper under development. Don’t get too excited, though, because there’s little to see from this early test mule. It’s largely wearing the bodywork from the last Viper, and what’s new is heavily disguised. What we can tell is that the headlights stretch back farther over the hood than the previous model, above the updated crosshair grille now in use across the Dodge model range. The placement of the air scoops and hood louvers appear different, and from what we can see at least, the front end seems to be more refined than its brutish predecessors. Of course, it’s what’s behind that new front end that counts. It may be too early to say if the V10 will return of whether regulatory restrictions will force Chrysler to go with something slightly more “responsible,” but you can bet it’ll have more electronic nannies in place, and if the rapidly-integrating Fiat /Chrysler empire plays its cards right, Dodge’s Italian sisters could bring some experience to bear. And that can’t be a bad thing. Next-gen Dodge Viper mule caught wearing new front end originally appeared on Autoblog on Sun, 14 Aug 2011 11:58:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds . Bodyless Dodge Viper is the ultimate burnout machine

Bodyless Dodge Viper is the ultimate burnout machine

We don’t really have anything against the slinking lines of the big snake, but there’s something about the vision of the V10 monster frolicking around with its skirt off that simply flips all the right switches. It’s like a post-pubescent Ariel Atom. If you recall seeing the awesome Viper-powered Saab 9-3 SportCombi built by Zatzy forum member mrspringer, you probably spent at least half a second wondering what fate befell the engine’s donor. Well, wonder no more. Mrspringer seemingly got a hold of the whole vehicle in running condition with one notable exception – it had no skin. Like any mad scientist worth his salt, the guy immediately set the rear tires spinning and the naked guts of the Viper pirouetting in a remarkably tight parking area. We applaud both his car control skills and his commitment to safety. Remember, kids, always wear your seatbelt. Hit the jump to check out the action for yourself. Filed under: Coupe , Performance , Videos , Dodge , Alfa Romeo Alfa Romeo TZ3 Stradale by Zagato – Click above to watch the video after the jump When is an Alfa Romeo not an Alfa Romeo? When it’s a Dodge Viper ACR , of course. Okay, so the Zagato TZ3 Stradale may have nothing more tying it to Alfa than the badge on its nose and the name on which it draws, but that’s not about to stop us from loving it. Details and initial photos of the coachbuilt custom just dropped the other day, revealing the latest in the iconic line of Zagato TZs . And while we were waiting for Zagato to release some additional photos of its newest creation, we got this video instead. Not that we’re complaining, because the ACR -based TZ3 Stradale is all kinds of awesome. But don’t take our word for it – follow the jump to watch the brief video for yourself. 2013 Dodge Viper coming in late 2012, stability control confirmed

2013 Dodge Viper coming in late 2012, stability control confirmed

April 16, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Filed under: Spy Photos , Coupe , Performance , Etc. , Dodge Chrysler is finally reining in its big bad snake. After years of shunning stability control for its no-holds-barred feel, the Pentastar is planning to incorporate stability control on the next-generation Dodge Viper . Set to debut in 2012 as a 2013 model, the vehicle’s systems are currently undergoing testing on a 2010 chassis, and Chrysler was kind enough to share a photo of the serpent slithering through the snow. There’s just something about seeing a supercar on the powder that makes us grin like a canary-fed feline. What else do we know about the next-generation Viper? Few solid details have been confirmed as of yet, but word on the web is that buyers can look forward to somewhere between 600 and 700 horsepower. There’s no indication as to whether those ponies will come from a V10 as in days of old or if Chrysler will opt for something with fewer cylinders and more forced induction. Either way, there will be enough power on hand to rankle the chains of hardware like the Corvette ZR1 and Nissan GT-R . Chrysler says that the company is prepping the Viper for the next “Supercar Olympics,” but from the sound of things, the beast will be more at home in an all-out street brawl. We can’t wait. Chrysler’s brief statement is available after the jump . Filed under: Coupe , Performance , Dodge Dodge Viper ACR at Miller Motorsports Park – Click above for high-res image gallery The Dodge Viper ACR is no longer in production, but it remains one of the most impressive sports cars ever built as evidenced by a recent trip to Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah. Dodge Motorsports brought a 2010 Viper ACR to the track along with road racer Kuno Wittmer, and the result was a record-smashing lap time of 1:59.995 – nearly four seconds faster than the previous record of 2:03.86 held by a Corvette ZR1 driven by Jan Magnussen. This isn’t the first time the Viper ACR has broken a track record for a production car. In 2008, Dutch driver Tom Coronel piloted a Viper ACR to a record 7:22.1 lap time around the N

Consumer Reports holding tournament to crown Drivers’ Choice champion

Consumer Reports holding tournament to crown Drivers’ Choice champion

March 21, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Filed under: Car Buying , Etc. , Cadillac , Chevrolet , Dodge , Land Rover Consumer Reports has added itself to the insanity that is March Madness with a bracket all its own. Consumer Reports will crown this year’s driver’s choice champion with an NCAA Tournament-style bracket made up of four “regions,” which in this case relate to types of cars. First-round voting has already begun in the four categories, which are: sporty cars, SUVs and trucks, practical cars, and performance sedans. The bracket is well thought out and the choices are legitimately thought-provoking. Would you rather have a Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1, or the last-hurrah Dodge Viper ? How about a Range Rover or a Cadillac Escalade ? Head over to Consumer Reports to see the full bracket and make your selections before the second round begins on March 21.
