Michigan State Police Impressed with Test Results of the Dodge Charger Pursuit
September 25, 2011 by Larson Automotive Group · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Sedan , Chevrolet , Dodge , Ford , Police/Emergency The Big Three are finally done one-upping each other in this year’s Michigan State Police vehicle evaluations, with the 2012 Dodge Charger Pursuit V8 laying down some heady numbers on the test track. The Charger emerged with the fastest lap time ever recorded in the Michigan State Police test’s history, at 1:33.7. That, boys and girls, is something else. The Chevrolet Caprice PPV may have the best top speed and braking, but the Charger has shown it has the chops to slice up the twisties as well. The Hemi-powered Charger also gets to 60 in under six seconds with the optional 3.07 gears. The only strike against the Charger is that needed a V8 to post those numbers, while both the Chevrolet Caprice and Ford Interceptor employ less thirsty V6s. Full presser after the jump . General Lee takes on Bandit T/A in classic Hollywood car showdown [w/poll]
August 26, 2011 by Dodge Blogger · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Videos , Dodge , Pontiac You don’t have to be born in the 1960s or 1970s to be able to recognize the General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard and the Pontiac Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit . These old school four-wheeled stars seem to transcend demographics thanks to the miles of film that show the orange 1969 Dodge Charger and the jet-black 1977 Pontiac Trans Am performing seemingly impossible stunts. The folks at Hot Rod magazine are obviously hip to this fact, and they put together a fun video in tribute of the instantly recognizable duo. Hit the jump to watch on as Sam Young and James Smith replace Bo Duke and The Bandit for a bit of dirt-road shenanigans in a pair of otherwise well cared for classics. We’re not so sure we’d call it the best chase scene ever, but it sure looks like a lot of fun. More importantly, which of these two cars would you rather own? Have your say in our poll below. Chrysler launches "No Payment for 90 Days" program

Filed under: Car Buying , Chrysler , Dodge , Jeep If you’ve been sitting on the sidelines waiting to pick up a new Chrysler product, now may be the time to stand up and bring your wallet down to the nearest dealership. Chrysler has fired up a new incentive program that will leave a bit of money in your bank account for the first three months of your new-car ownership period. It’s called (imaginatively enough) No Payments for 90 Days, and the program applies to all 2011 and 2012 Chrysler, Dodge , Jeep and Ram Truck vehicles. Chrysler has a few other incentives up its sleeve, including cash back on certain 2012 models and low financing rates on the 2011 vehicles still on the lots. A 2012 Dodge Avenger or Chrysler 200 will net you $500 cash, while a Jeep Liberty will get you $1,000 and a Ram Truck will put $1,500 back in your wallet. Still prefer a 2011? You might be able to qualify for a three-year loan with zero interest, or receive $2,000 cash back on the 2011 Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger . Of course, there’s a tiny catch. The No Payments for 90 Days program is only being offered for shoppers that opt to pursue financing through Ally Financial. Stuntman in General Lee biffs Dukes of Hazzard stunt attempt

Filed under: Etc. , Videos , Dodge Just a good ol’ boy. Tryin’ to jump real high. Beats all you ever saw, fightin’ physical law and thinkin’ he’s gonna fly. Bendin’ his fenders. Breakin’ his car. He easily cleared that copper, but then took it just a bit too far. Owning a “General Lee” Dodge Charger replica can be a lot of fun. You might even be tempted to jump things to the delight of assembled crowds. We’d advise against that, and we have video to back up our position. With apologies to Waylon Jennings, we ask you to click past the jump to see what we’re singing about. Beatboxing cop car can pull you over by way of a song

Filed under: Sedan , Etc. , Safety , Videos , Dodge , Police/Emergency Doug E. Fresh, Swifty, Buffy and Wise were the pioneers. Rahzell, Wes Carroll and Gavin Tyte moved it into the modern era, and Beardyman is moving it into the future. What the hell are we talking about? The art of beatboxing, of course. A new challenger has arrived to take on the kings of vocal percussion. Actually, this challenger is a Charger – a Dodge Charger police car to be exact. The car’s emergency sirens have been programmed to “beat box.” (We put that term in quotes so as not to offend the people we listed above). Click past the jump to see and hear the car in action. Chrysler replaces Dodge Charger police car after ‘suspicious’ fire
July 1, 2011 by Dodge Blogger · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Sedan , Etc. , Chrysler , Dodge , Police/Emergency Chrysler has agreed to replace a Dodge Charger Pursuit and all of the police gear inside for free after the vehicle mysteriously burnt to the ground. As you may recall, a Curry County, Oregon sheriff’s deputy saw his new cruiser (which had 6,000 miles on it) go crispy after stopping to assist in a search and rescue operation. Patrick Combs, the rescuee, was found and taken to a local hospital by ambulance, but deputy Jared Gray’s new Charger Patrol didn’t survive the scene. The fire seemed to take hold in the passenger-side front wheel well and continued to reignite after fire crews extinguished the blaze. There was one small caveat to the vehicle’s generous replacement, however. In exchange for the new set of wheels, the sheriff’s department had to agree to sign a non-disclosure, which means we may never know exactly what set the car ablaze. As our friends at The J point out, no reports of toasty civilian Chargers have been made to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Chrysler finally gets a compliment from Consumer Reports

One of the four-horsemen of the apocalypse has officially arrived. Consumer Reports has gone and paid Chrysler a compliment by saying that the 2011 Durango and Charger are the company’s most-improved models and, on the whole, the automaker’s cars are getting better. CR even awarded both the V6 and V8-powered Dodge Durango a “Very Good” road test score, putting it in contention with the likes of the 2011 Ford Explorer . The 2011 Dodge Charger Rallye also nabbed a “Very Good” rating, which is comparable to the 2011 Ford Taurus and 2011 Buick Lacrosse . Even the 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan walked away with the honor of a “Very Good” designation, but things aren’t all lollipops and rainbows. Consumer Reports says that its testers were unimpressed with models like the 200 , Avenger , Compass , Journey and Patriot , calling the vehicles mediocre. Ouch. The report says that poor reliability hasn’t helped the Chrysler cause. Over the past three years, the organization has only recommended one of the automaker’s vehicles – the Dodge Ram 1500 . Hit the jump to check out the full press release. Motorist impaled by fence post survives [w/animation]
June 12, 2011 by Dodge Blogger · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Etc. , Safety , Videos , Dodge Man survives after being impaled by two-inch pipe – Click above to watch the video after the jump We’re not sure if Andrew Linn is the luckiest man alive or the least lucky, but either way we have no idea how he could survive a two-inch pipe passing through his face and out the back of his head. Linn somehow left the road and hit a chain-link fence (he has no recollection of the event), and when the fence broke apart, the two-inch pipe at the top of the fence snapped off, traveled through the windshield, under Linn’s nose and through his neck. Doctors say that if the pipe entered at any other point or at a slightly different angle, Linn would have been killed instantly. Hit the jump to watch the ABC News report, which includes an animation that shows how the Dodge Charger may have struck the fence and lead to the pipe passing through Linn. We know it’s just pixels, but we can’t help but shriek every time we see the pipe pass strategically though his neck. Ouch. Future Chryslers to include Charger Super Bee, 40+ mpg Fiat 500
May 4, 2011 by Dodge Blogger · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Sedan , SUV , Hatchback , Chrysler , Dodge , Fiat 2011 Dodge Charger – Click above for high-res image gallery Chrysler is fresh off the introduction of 16 new or refreshed models, but Team Pentastar isn’t out of breath just yet. According to Inside Line, CEO Sergio Marchionne told reporters and analysts that there will be more changes throughout 2011. For starters, the Dodge Charger will reportedly add a Super Bee variant. The familiar badge will likely be a mostly cosmetic upgrade, though Chrysler hasn’t yet announced any specifics. Meanwhile, the Jeep Wrangler will finally – finally – receive a new engine. The ancient 3.8-liter six will be replaced by the new 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, which boasts 283 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque in most applications. The far more powerful 3.6-liter will also come with a reported 10 percent increase in fuel economy, though the Wrangler won’t get the eight-speed auto transmission that should arrive from Getrag later in the year. One of the Chrysler brands will also receive a rebadged version of the Fiat 500 before the end of 2011. The efficient little runt, which could be badged as a Dodge, must hit at least 40 miles per gallon to satisfy a requirement necessary for Fiat to receive another five percent ownership of Chrysler. If and when that happens, Fiat will own a 51 percent majority of the American automaker. Team Pentastar is also looking to add more diesel models to its lineup. The oil burners will reportedly make up 14 percent of the automaker’s model mix by 2014. We know that the Jeep Grand Cherokee is getting Chrysler’s 3.0-liter CRD V6 in the coming years, and we’re crossing our fingers for an oil-burning Wrangler, as well.
