The 2013 VW Passat
May 15, 2013 by PGI Auto · Leave a Comment
The new VW Passat in Tacoma was built in with performance and drivability in mind. Not everyone is satisfied with the mediocre performance most midsize sedans offer, which is why the Volkswagen Passat is a refreshing alternative. Reviewers have described the 2013 Passat as a lively and nimble sedan that doesn’t drive like most midsize [...]

Cadillac has new poster sedan

Filed under: Car Buying , Minivan/Van , Europe , Chrysler , Lancia , Fiat The Chrysler – Fiat merger has already spawned some nicely badge-engineered Chryslers for the U.K. market , and now comes payback. The 2012 Lancia Voyager goes on sale in Europe this month, and if it looks like a Chrysler Town & Country Limited, well, that’s because it is. Save for some rather tastefully applied badging identifying the upscale Italian brand – and the removal of the TC’s chrome bodyside molding – we’re hard pressed to see much difference between the U.S. and Euro versions of the people mover, at least on the surface. Underhood, however, Lancia will be offering a 2.8-liter common rail turbodiesel that’s unavailable in the States. While the diesel is only rated at a meager 163 horsepower, its 265 pound-feet of torque is more than the Pentastar V6 gasoline engine, which is also an option overseas. Fiat says the diesel Voyager is good for 30 miles per gallon in the European combined cycle; the 283-horsepower Pentastar manages just 22 mpg in this application. This would be the place where we would normally grumble about not getting the diesel version here in the U.S., but we’re not going to do that this time. After all, it’s just a Chrysler minivan. See the full press release after the break . Chrysler 200 sedan staying home, only convertible going to Europe

Filed under: Convertible , Etc. , Europe , Chrysler , Lancia , Fiat Fiat is getting ready to stick For Sale signs on the Chrysler 200 in the European market. However, it seems only the 200 Convertible will be making the trip across the pond, where it will wear Lancia Flavia badging. Why is the sedan stuck stateside? Fiat executives find it too costly to add a diesel option, and feel the 200 sedan won’t sell well without an oil-burning powerplant under the hood. The convertible, however, is viewed as an attractive offering (in a manner of speaking) despite the gas-only powerplant. Good news, American business travelers – you can now rent yourself a droptop Sebring 2.0 while jet-setting in Europe, too. Filed under: Sedan , Performance , SUV , Videos , Chrysler , Dodge , Jeep All it takes is a moment or two pondering Chrysler’s high performance SRT lineup to put a smile on our faces. After all, the entire lineup was given a makeover in the past few months, complete with a new 6.4-liter Hemi V8 engine that pumps out 470 pavement-punishing horsepower. Newly named SRT brand CEO Ralph Gilles is lucky enough to have the best seat in the house to oversee the development of the brand. Gilles sat down in front of the cameras to talk SRT, and the good folks at Chrysler popped the results into YouTube for your enjoyment. Hit the jump to check out the moving pictures. If you’re not inclined to tune in for Gilles and his unbridled passion for all things SRT, then do it for the beautiful b-roll of Chrysler’s performance lineup in action. 2011 Dodge Charger Rallye V6 [w/video]

Filed under: Sedan , Dodge , New Car Reviews Some Things Never Go Out Of Style The year was 1966. The muscle car era, which arguably began two years earlier with the introduction of the Pontiac GTO, was in full swing. In order to have a chance at attracting the young, affluent buyers so craved by American automakers of the day, a car needed to offer equal doses of style and horsepower. Dodge , with its brand new Charger fastback, offered plenty of both. But it wasn’t until 1968 that the Dodge Charger truly hit its stride, earning it legendary status in the annals of automotive history. Coke-bottle styling, a full suite of powerful V8 engines – including the 440 Six Pack and 426 Hemi – and plenty of success on the NASCAR circuit meant that the Dodge Boys had a winner on their hands. Sadly, the heyday of American muscle was nearly over by the time Dodge figured out the formula, and the car was just a shell of its former muscular self by the end of 1974. The rest of the 1970s were not kind to the Charger, and sales slowly faded away until the model name was canceled altogether after the 1978 model year. We’ll gracefully skip over the front-wheel-drive years from 1983 through 1987 and move straight to the nameplate’s reintroduction in 2006. The Hemi was back in action, the new car’s styling was aggressive and generally well received and sales took off. But by 2010, yet again the reborn Charger was seriously showing its age, having received nothing in the way of significant interior or exterior updates during its five years back on the market and being saddled with a fully uncompetitive line of V6 engines and even an ancient four-speed automatic transmission in base models. Dodge has finally given the “new” Charger some attention with an update for 2011 that includes new looks, new engines and the complete absence of a four-speed transmission. Does this mean that Dodge is done letting the Charger nameplate wither on the vine? Without spoiling the rest of the review, let’s just say we have some good news to share. Maserati to unveil Grand Cherokee-based SUV in Frankfurt
August 4, 2011 by Dodge Blogger · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Frankfurt Motor Show , Performance , SUV , Jeep , Maserati , Luxury It’s go time over at the Modena headquarters of Maserati . The automaker itself set the ambitious target of doubling its sales figures, but its corporate overlord Sergio Marchionne wants the brand to increase their sales tenfold . That’s ambitious and then some, and in order to get there, the Trident marque is going to need some new product. Fortunately, Maserati has just such plans in store. And we already know a bit about all of ‘em. The Quattroporte will be replaced by two new sedans – one smaller and one larger than the current model – while a new SUV is set to join the lineup for the first time. What we didn’t know is that the sport-ute is set, according to reports, for unveiling at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show next month. The vehicle, based on the latest Jeep Grand Cherokee , will likely debut in concept form at first. So it might be a while before we find out whether it will carry Maserati’s own V8 engine or something from the Chrysler parts bin, but we should have a good idea of what we’re looking at when the concept is unveiled next week. Stay tuned. Maserati to unveil Grand Cherokee-based SUV in Frankfurt originally appeared on Autoblog 5.0 on Thu, 04 Aug 2011 16:32:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds . Permalink
Chrysler 200 wagon rendered… should it be built? [w/poll]
August 4, 2011 by Dodge Blogger · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Concept Cars , Wagon , Chrysler , Design/Style Chrysler has no plans (at least, none that we’re aware of) that involve bringing a 200 wagon to market. If those plans change, we think the automaker should look towards Theophilus Chin for inspiration. We’ve seen Chin’s renderings before, and his take on the 200 wagon suggests that the family hauler would also be a pretty decent looker, particularly as it forgoes the sedan’s awkward greenhouse in favor of a more traditional form. Chin takes on the rendering from both front and rear angles, and you can take a closer look at each by clicking through the gallery. Now that you’ve taken a look, we’d like to know what you think. Should Chrysler expand the 200 lineup with a wagon? Have a say in our informal poll below. View Poll Chrysler 200 wagon rendered… should it be built?
