2012 Ram pickup range updated with new gearbox, added power

Filed under: Truck , Work , Chrysler , Diesel Ram is going for broke with its 2012 truck range, increasing power in both the 5.7-liter Hemi and 6.7 Cummins diesel. The gas V8 gets a bump to 383 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. The 6.7-liter Cummins diesel inline six now pushes 350 horses backed by 800 lb.-ft. of torque. Added to that, there’s a new six-speed automatic transmission with an updated torque converter. Ram says that the transmission should not only be stronger, but lead to improved fuel efficiency as well. With the new power in the big Cummins, the 4500 and 5500 series chassis cab trucks get a combined gross weight increase from 26,000 pounds to 30,000 pounds. Full details in the PR blast after the jump. Chrysler 200 wagon rendered… should it be built? [w/poll]

Chrysler 200 wagon rendered… should it be built? [w/poll]

Filed under: Concept Cars , Wagon , Chrysler , Design/Style Chrysler has no plans (at least, none that we’re aware of) that involve bringing a 200 wagon to market. If those plans change, we think the automaker should look towards Theophilus Chin for inspiration. We’ve seen Chin’s renderings before, and his take on the 200 wagon suggests that the family hauler would also be a pretty decent looker, particularly as it forgoes the sedan’s awkward greenhouse in favor of a more traditional form. Chin takes on the rendering from both front and rear angles, and you can take a closer look at each by clicking through the gallery. Now that you’ve taken a look, we’d like to know what you think. Should Chrysler expand the 200 lineup with a wagon? Have a say in our informal poll below. View Poll Chrysler 200 wagon rendered… should it be built? Chrysler overtakes Ford as Canada’s No. 1 truckmaker

Chrysler overtakes Ford as Canada’s No. 1 truckmaker

Filed under: Car Buying , Chrysler , Dodge , Jeep , Canada Chrysler has managed to steal the title of number-one light-truck seller in Canada from Ford in the first half of 2011. Our neighbors to the north have seen an improvement in the construction industry, according to Bloomberg , which has helped fuel the country’s light-truck market. Deliveries in that segment have grown at twice the rate of the rest of the Canadian auto industry, and Chrysler led that charge last month for the first time in 2011. That was enough to push the automaker past rival Ford, which nabbed the honor of being the number-one manufacturer in Canada from General Motors last year. GM had held onto that spot for decades. It’s worth noting that the light-truck segment includes everything from pickups to SUVs, minivans and crossovers. The Dodge Journey has seen its sales leap by 50 percent to 16,069 units up north, so that jump could be considered soft. The crossover was joined by the Grand Caravan , Ram pickup and Jeep Wrangler as models that all saw their best Canadian sales month ever this June. Max Papis is unhappy with Jacques Villeneuve

Max Papis is unhappy with Jacques Villeneuve

Filed under: Videos , Dodge , Racing Jacques Villeneuve ticks off Max Papis – Click above to watch video after the jump Yesterday’s Bucyrus 200 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Road America finished ugly, with wrecked cars and angry drivers highlighting a conclusion that took a lot longer than it probably should have. The race was set for a green-white-checkered finish, and as it went back to green, Jacques Villeneuve , driving the #22 Dodge Challenger , tried to make a move to the outside to gain position on the leaders. Villeneuve quickly ran out of road, however, and as he dove in to stay off the grass, he bumped Brian Scott’s #11 Toyota , sending it into the gravel, and then cut off Max Papis, driving the #33 Chevrolet . Papis went hard into Villeneuve’s Dodge, then slid off the track into the wall. Thanks to the ubiquitous in-car radio feeds in NASCAR coverage, we got to hear Papis react with a disgusted, “Thank you, Jacques. Good job,” followed by, “I knew the 22 was going to do something stupid.” As everyone pitted, Villeneuve caught plenty of flack. Scott was first in line, riding up behind Villeneuve and bumping his Dodge as it entered the pits. Then, a ticked-off Papis pulled alongside and parked to give Villeneuve a piece of his mind. As for the race itself, two more green-white-checkered attempts were needed to being it to an end. Reed Sorenson was awarded the win as the race ended under yellow, taking first after race officials ruled that Ron Fellows, who appeared to be the victor, had gained position on Sorenson after the yellow flag had come out. As for Jacques Villeneuve? He podiumed, finishing third. Hit the jump to watch the Villeneuve mishap. Review: 2011 Dodge Durango

Review: 2011 Dodge Durango

Filed under: SUV , Crossover , Dodge , Reviews Finding Redemption Through Repetition, Groundhog Day Style 2011 Dodge Durango – Click above for high-res image gallery Two years ago, on a lark, my girlfriend and I clambered aboard a new Dodge Durango Hybrid and motored from Detroit to Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania to take in the kitschy phenomenon known as Groundhog Day. The idea was to do a combined road trip story and vehicle review, but Chrysler didn’t even wait for us to return home before it killed off production of the gas-electric SUV. In fact, it wasn’t much more than two months after its initial announcement that production was cancelled at the truck’s Delaware plant . Blame Chrysler’s then-dire financial condition, but the hybrid Durango barely made a dent on the Pentastar’s production charts, lasting one model year and moving just 224 copies. Hold your belated “Who Killed the Electric SUV?” shrieks, though. Despite a nearly 25-percent increase in claimed fuel efficiency, the Durango Hybrid wasn’t a particularly good vehicle. This wasn’t wasn’t really its fault, of course, as the already aging second-generation Durango upon which it was based wasn’t a terribly refined piece to begin with. Fast-forward to 2011, and we’ve commandeered an example of Dodge’s all-new third-generation Durango to make our second-ever pilgrimage to see Punxy Phil. More importantly, we’re using the trip as an opportunity to see if Chrysler has finally gotten around to building a better Durango.
