General Lee takes on Bandit T/A in classic Hollywood car showdown [w/poll]

Filed under: Videos , Dodge , Pontiac You don’t have to be born in the 1960s or 1970s to be able to recognize the General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard and the Pontiac Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit . These old school four-wheeled stars seem to transcend demographics thanks to the miles of film that show the orange 1969 Dodge Charger and the jet-black 1977 Pontiac Trans Am performing seemingly impossible stunts. The folks at Hot Rod magazine are obviously hip to this fact, and they put together a fun video in tribute of the instantly recognizable duo. Hit the jump to watch on as Sam Young and James Smith replace Bo Duke and The Bandit for a bit of dirt-road shenanigans in a pair of otherwise well cared for classics. We’re not so sure we’d call it the best chase scene ever, but it sure looks like a lot of fun. More importantly, which of these two cars would you rather own? Have your say in our poll below. Filed under: SUV , Jeep , Toys/Games , Design/Style , Off-Road It looks like Jeep and Activision Publishing are continuing their successful partnership , placing battlefield-ready Wranglers in the Call of Duty video game series and selling a real-life version to gamers who wish to shuttle themselves to and fro in rough-and-tumble off-road-ready opulence. For those unaware, there’s a new version of the video game series heading to store shelves in short order, and Jeep is wasting no time showing its own Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Wrangler to the public. Interestingly, Jeep decided to bring out its COD 3 Wrangler for the first time at the 2011 Woodward Dream Cruise , sporting all manner of specific gaming paraphernalia; such as new front and rear bumpers (the rear one holds water), mesh reliefs in the hood, flat black wheels with large, blocky tires and large metal emblems. Expect this latest COD-infused Wrangler to hit the market in the fall, timed to coincide with the release of the affiliated video game. In the meantime, check out some live shots in our image gallery, courtesy of Sidequesting.com. Dodge Omni GLH ad brings out the child in us all

Filed under: Classics , Performance , Marketing/Advertising , Videos , Hatchback , Dodge The name Shelby is synonymous with high performance. The name Omni is more often recalled as a small hatchback offered by Dodge in the 1980s, and while it was practical and efficient, nobody ever thought of the little runabout as anything other than basic transportation. A funny thing happened when Chrysler got the bright idea to combine Shelby and Omni into one package, though: an iconic hot hatch was born. And darn if they didn’t come up with one of the quickest production cars in America… On second thought, “iconic” may be too lofty a word for the Dodge Omni GLH and, a few modifications later, its slightly quicker GLHS sibling. “Memorable,” “noteworthy” and, above all else, “fun,” on the other hand, apply perfectly. And speaking of memorable, have a look at the glorious commercial after the break , where the advertising geniuses combined an all-black Shelby Omni with a voiceover that sounds a heck of a lot like Billy Dee Williams. Oh, and in case you were wondering, GLH stands for Goes Like Hell. GLHS stands for Goes Like Hell Some More, or so the legend goes. Filed under: Performance , SUV , Jeep , Design/Style Allow us to rephrase a quote from the great Homer: First you get the Jeep , then you add the power, then you upgrade the interior. That’s the plan of attack for this Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 , which has already been given a power boost courtesy of Hennessey , and now it’s received close attention from the interior-obsessed minds at Vilner . Inside, red and black Alcantara is paired with black leather and red seams. The custom steering wheel gets the same treatment and Vilner also took a shot at the exterior while it was in their garage, upgrading the headlights with LED daytime running lamps. Check it all out in the gallery above. Filed under: Hatchback , Chrysler , Dodge Dodge Caliber Mopar Edition – Click above for high-res image gallery South African Chrysler fans has a new special edition vehicle coming their way. Described by Chrysler as a way to “satisfy the boy racer in all of us,” the Dodge Caliber Mopar Edition is a blacked-out hatchback rolling on 18-inch powdercoated alloy wheels. Under the hood sits a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that’s been juiced up courtesy of a cold-air induction kit and an upgraded manifold and exhaust system, and the mill is paired with a manual transmission. The Caliber Mopar Edition is dropped two inches, wears Mopar decals and gets a unique hood as well. Priced at 259,990.00 Rand, the Dodge Caliber Mopar Edition will set you back a bit over $37,000 at current exchange rates. We understand that car cost is a hard thing to directly translate, and if you ditch the stripes it’s not half bad looking, but that’s still a ton of money for a tarted up Caliber… and it’s a far cry from the long-lost turbocharged SRT4 . The short clip after the break is apparently the abbreviated version of an upcoming short film featuring Kravitz taking the 2011 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited off the beaten track. Some of you may recall that this isn’t the first time that Mr. Kravitz’ music has been used to promote the off-road-ready sport-utes of the world . As a bonus, Chrysler threw in a sample of the music on Kravitz’s new record, Black and White America . From what we can tell, the upcoming short will feature Kravitz and the Wrangler getting down and dirty in an abandoned swamp. Click past the jump to see the action for yourself. New York 2011: Chrysler’s new 300C Executive Series brings the swank, monocle not included
April 24, 2011 by Dodge Blogger · Leave a Comment
Filed under: New York Auto Show , Sedan , Chrysler , Luxury 2012 Chrysler 300C Executive Series – Click above for high-res image gallery Chrysler says its new 2012 300C Executive Series is poised to be “the most luxurious Chrysler flagship sedan ever.” That’s a pretty tall order, but one quick glance at the Executive Series’ spec sheet makes us think that The Pentastar may have hit the nail right on the head. What makes the 300C Executive Series so swanky, you ask? For starters, the normal seats have been wrapped in two-tone Nappa leather, the front passengers are greeted by a hand-stitched Italian leather dash and there are hand-sanded real wood accents all throughout the cabin. But it doesn’t stop there. The instrument panel, center console, side panels and upper door panels can be wrapped in a choice of either Mochachino or Black Poltrona Frau “Foligno” leather. Those Nappa leather seats feature 12-way power adjustment up front, and of course, there’s a host of Chrysler’s latest infotainment technology housed in its Uconnect Touch system. The Executive changes aren’t just limited to the interior, though. Outside, the chrome fascia, mirror and door handle accents have been replaced with a platinum finish, and new 20-inch wheels give the whole package an impressive stance. Under the hood is the 300C’s 5.7-liter Hemi V8, churning out 363 horsepower in this application. So, is this the most luxurious Chrysler flagship ever? Judge for yourself in our high-res image galleries below. Revealing of the Chrysler 200 s and 200 s Convertible sport
April 22, 2011 by paramopgi · Leave a Comment
Filed under: New York Auto Show , Convertible , Sedan , Chrysler 2011 Chrysler 200 S sedan and 200 S convertible – Click above for high-res image gallery Chrysler is jumping the gun, so to speak, choosing to reveal two new family members ahead of the 2011 New York Auto Show . The 2011 Chrysler 200 S sedan and 2011 200 S convertible appear to be edgier than their non-S counterparts, which is because Chrysler has given them a shot in the styling arm, upping the visual appeal by a few degrees. The 2011 200 S gets an S-specific Chrysler wing badge on the nose, body-colored side mirrors and door handles and a pair of headlamps with black backgrounds. Sitting underneath the fenders are four 18-inch aluminum wheels, which also all wear the S badge. Inside, the 200 S gets embroidered front headrests, heated leather front seats with suede inserts, suede door trim and a 276-watt Boston Acoustic audio system. Under the hood, the 200 S gets the now-familiar 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine, which is good for 283-horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Paired with an automatic transmission, the duo is good for 29 miles per gallon on the highway. The fixed-roof 200 S will set you back $26,790 while the drop-top costs $32,490. Both versions are expected to show up on dealer lots sometime this spring. Be sure to check out the full press release posted after the jump . New York 2011: Chrysler’s 200 S Convertible is the emo cousin to standard droptop
April 21, 2011 by paramopgi · Leave a Comment
Filed under: New York Auto Show , Convertible , Chrysler 2011 Chrysler 200 S Convertible – Click above for high-res image gallery Chrysler has injected a dash of menace into the 200 convertible , and the result is the 2011 200 S droptop. It’s not outright evil, since it still packs the same 283-horsepower 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine and the same suspension. However, the S version trends a bit toward the dark side thanks to a host of exterior changes designed to bring a dose of cool to Chrysler’s rental lot standby. Naturally, if you prefer your cars with fixed roofs, Auburn Hills will be happy to sell you a 200 S sedan , as well. The shined-up silver paintwork looks resplendent under the New York Auto Show lights. A Chrysler wing badge sits prominently in the mesh of the black grille, while the headlights also get the black background treatment. The dark theme continues on the S-badged 18-inch aluminum wheels and then winds its way into the cabin. The front leather seats are heated and the driver can also warm up his or her hands on the heated steering wheel. The S logo is stitched into the headrests, along with a line of contrasting silver accent along the seams. The 200 S convertible should hit your local dealer later this spring, and will arrive carrying an as-delivered price tag of $32,490, while the sedan rings up at 26,790. You can eyeball the 2011 Chrysler 200 S Convertible in the galleries below, and be sure to click past the jump to read the full press release.
